In 2015, membersy was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to help leading dental brands democratize access to quality dental care via subscription-based dentistry.

Who is membersy?

Every great idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: dental insurance is broken.

After graduating college in 2009, Eric Johnson, our Founder and CEO, did what most recent college grads do: he got a job. In Eric’s case, it was as a National Sales Manager with Careington, a traditional dental benefits company headquartered in Frisco, TX.

New to the dental industry and somewhat naive to its history, Eric witnessed first-hand the disdain dental practices and consumers alike had towards the traditional dental insurance model. Dentists hated the low reimbursement rates and the lengthy claims process, while consumers often complained about the red tape and overall lack of value (high monthly premiums and low annual maximums).

It turns out there was a simple explanation. The dental care narrative is controlled by a handful of dental insurance companies that have been able to keep prices artificially high while reaping huge profits from the dentists who provide the dental care and consumers who receive and pay for it. The dental insurance is the “middleman”, and was in control of the dental care narrative.

In the summer of 2015, after selling his car and raising $20,000 from friends and family, Eric started membersy to create an alternative.

By empowering dental service organizations with a tech-enabled platform to launch and grow their own licensed dental membership plan, consulting dental teams on retail pricing best practices, and focusing on the member “experience” in everything we do, we are able to provide a more personal and connected experience for more than 4,000 dental practices and close to 1,000,000 members nationwide.

We believe that today’s consumers expect a highly personal and connect experience in everything they do. And it’s time that dentistry met those expectations.

We also believe that everyone has the right to great oral health care. And going to the dentist should leave you happy and good-looking with money in your pocket.

More than 100 million Americans lack access to quality, affordable dental care. That’s roughly 35% of the United States’ population. To help address this problem, membersy partners with dental service organizations of all sizes—from small startups to large enterprises—with a focus on growing the membership dentistry movement. One member at a time.

To expand our reach even further, we’re launching membersy marketplace this fall. The industry’s first dental membership plan exchange is where individuals and families can shop, compare, and subscribe in one of membersy’s 35+ licensed dental membership plans (and growing).

There’s nothing complicated about it. Good dental experience, good dental outcome.
